Caillou

We had a doll show up at Christmas and I wasn't really positive where it came from. My go-to answer would be that my mother in law stole it from her sister's home (where 9/10 of our toys are from). Being a novice, I had no idea that this was an established character with his own tv show, books, dolls, etc. I thought we would call him Leuk b/c to me he looked like a pediatric leukemia patient ...pale, bald with a misfit ball cap and under nourished appearing limbs. I have learned (now with an infant I use TV as a form of childcare) that his name, in fact, is Caillou. I would like to take a minute to apologize for any unPC naming of dolls. (my agent told me to make that PR statement - or I will have to go to unPC rehab for being a unPCaholic)

  1. Dude. You seriously hadn't heard of Caillou? I hope you have not been allowing Maddy to watch COMMERCIAL TELEVISION. What kind of parent would expose their child to such a thing?
Yeah, the Caillou doll is from our house. Of course. My kids loved Caillou, but I'll warn you that he's a little whiny. He drove Meme crazy.
The BEST public tv show is Arthur. Mads is a little young for it yet. Have to say, though, that I stuck Lilly in front of it every day when she was a toddler. We still watch it. For several years, if I didn't get my Arthur fix every day , I'd get cranky. And even now we start the holiday season by watching Arthur's Perfect Christmas, which is awesome. I can probably recite it word for word.
My other favorite PBS shows are Cyberchase and WordGirl (with her monkey sidekick, Captain Huggy-Face).

  2. Caillou does instill educational and social values quite well. Especially when it comes to sibling rivalry, he can teach us a few lessons. Our store carries a wide variety of Caillou books and Caillou DVDs that touch upon these topics.
