Part I - Rain
I'm sure you will recall, as a devout follower of this blog, I mentioned that our home has a one car garage/basement combo (I'm in the garage..what? I'm in the basement...what? I'm in the combination garage/basement). I think Mother Nature is menopausal. We have had a few recent storms with raging winds and torrential downpour. The first we escaped with only losing power for a few hours. Not a big deal at all. We noticed last night, we would not be so lucky this time. We made every effort last night to manually remove water from the basement. It turned out everything we thought we were removing was running right back down to us. strike 1. We moved everything up to a 'safe' level. A level we thought impossible for the rain water to reach. We were a tad off in our calculation when we woke up to over a foot of water down there. Strike 2. Somehow, the garbage cans (that had Millie's crate on them) dumped over, as did a bucket full of sunflower seeds for the birds. Strike 3. It looked like an inner city abandoned lot had flooded. Stray cardboard and recycling floating about. There is birdseed floating in almost every inch of the space. Garbage bags filled with diapers filled with human waste were added to the mix. A real fucking mess.
It has been a loooong day (and a HUGE shout out to my wonderfully resourceful, smart, handsome, practical, multi tasking husband) of pumping water from here to there and there to here.
Part II - Rainbow
1.Tomorrow will be in the low 50's and sunny, we welcome the drying out time and are glad the over 6.5 '' we got in the last 48 hrs will be but a memory
2. I am now gainfully employed. First paycheck (pending deposit- already withdrawn) brand new Wayne 3/4 HP sump pump and a visit from the plumber. awesome.
